About

Isabella (Bella) Briganti is an artist born, raised, and residing in Denver. Her love of art grew from an early age by her grandfather, who was a professional cartoonist and sign painter. Her art practice is based on lived experiences and adjacent associations, focusing on introspection and reflections on the relationships we form. Although much of her work consists of oils and acrylic paintings, exploration of media and subject is something that Bella values and enjoys. She takes every opportunity to work from life, and enjoys taking her own photographs to create reference images for her paintings.
Currently, her work is focused on contemplating the intricacies of interpersonal relationships, societal networks, and the reflection of these in nature through the form of figure paintings. Bella is also interested in the combination of art and science in both the form of scientific illustrations and the integration of natural organisms into her paintings. These works are created using specimens she collects herself and in tandem with the Denver Botanic Gardens, thus further exploring and depicting her observations on relationships in the context of the natural world.
She graduated in Fall 2023 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Practices at the University of Colorado Denver, with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting, a sub-emphasis in Illustration, and a minor in Biology. Bella has shown her work in more than twenty exhibitions and has worked with galleries and artists such as Jaime Molina, Oliver Herring, and the Emmanuel Gallery. She recently completed the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver's Creator's Studio Internship for Summer of 2024, with a grant from a board of donors based on a project pitch for work to be produced and shown in a solo show at the Bitfactory Gallery in September of 2026. Bella hopes to continue to build relationships with other artists both locally and internationally.

Artist Statement

Art, for me, is a celebration and investigation of the experiences of being human. Interpersonal relationships, emotions, and the nuances of them are an indelible part of being, and my purpose is to explore the navigation of these complex connections.
Authentically connecting with others requires one to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is frightening, and painful miscommunication is inevitable. It is by laying ourselves bare to one another that we can authentically connect, learning and growing through our shared, painful misunderstandings.
The main goal of my work is to codify the nuance of the nature of our communications with one another to transform our distressing misinterpretations into a space of growth, healing, and learning.
I find inspiration in painful places. I wish to create work that encourages introspection of our personal and societal interactions for a better understanding of each other and a more comfortable existence. I seek to transcribe my findings and my questions into the physical and visual language of two and three dimensional artworks with techniques and mediums that speak to the specific concept of the piece being created.
